There are many reasons why you should want to go solar. While we’ve got our heads down in the logistics of designing, permitting, and installing systems all over the borough, it’s sometimes difficult for us to reflect on all of the different influences that are driving the growth of our business. People call-- and we answer. While we’d love to chalk all of that up to our expertise as a company…we have a lot going for us externally as well. Going solar just makes sense. Now more than ever. Whether you’re considering economics, environmental impact, or its practicality with other work on your home-- the hard line is that solar helps in such a drastic way that you have every right to be confused why all of your neighbors haven’t done it already.
Below we’ve tried to outline some of the more outrageous (and very real things) that are driving people to go solar. A mix of the internal and the external, we hope that this overview helps you contextualize the revolution that’s happening on rooftops all around you.
The Economics are Insanely Good
It’s not free… but the way that it pays for itself it basically feels like it.
Brooklyn pays one of the highest electricity rates in the entire country. On average, homes that we work with are paying at least $1,500 just in electric bills each year. Although a typical solar installation costs somewhere between $25,000 and $40,000 most people see their money back within the first 5-7 years after we’ve installed. Yeah. Check my math though.
The payback period for solar is dramatically shortened by a host of incentives on the Federal, State, and City level that ultimately end up covering about 70% of the cost of a system. They’re triggered differently, but most of them come in the form of a tax credit that reduces your tax burden or comes back in the form of a refund.
When you think about the productivity and longevity of the panels that are being installed on rooftops today, it’s essentially the most discounted source of prepaid power that you’re able to come by. Panels can meet the entire electric demand of a home AND their guaranteed for 25 years to produce their electricity. The investment sees ROI quickly-- and its value lasts.
Walk the Talk Environmentalism
To stand any chance at curbing some of our future CO2 emissions and curtailing some of the more drastic effects of climate change, we need to develop a renewable grid. The power we use in Brooklyn comes almost entirely from dirty methods of production: power plants burning natural gas or reactors inducing nuclear fusion. The CO2 reductions associated with installing a solar system on your home are real and a direct contribution to the fight against climate change.
A number of our customers use a solar installation as an opportunity to take care of other necessary home improvements they need to make. Solar is the perfect dovetail for roof-repair, electric work, or other aspects of a renovation. If you're trying to figure out some of the larger logistics of an improvement to your home you should chat with one of our solar consultants about some of the other work that's made easier by what we do!
We Make it Easy
It can seem daunting as you enter the process to transition to solar power. How could something with such importance be easy? Well… it’s not exactly. But we handle all the bumps and obstacles for you. Once you decide to make the switch, we’ll run with the design, permitting and installation required to get your system built. We’ll keep you in the loop as we work through the process, but you shouldn’t need to do more than check your email before we get all of your permits in line and drive on over with our friendly installation team. In 3 months time from the day you make the commitment, we should have a system on your roof and functional.
Our Solar Groups Save Everyone Money
When you go solar in a group you save money. When we work with people in groups, we save money. It’s a wonderful feedback loop of savings. We’re currently working with several neighborhoods in Brooklyn to establish solar groups. Contact us today for more information about a group near you:
You may have heard about a solar tariff that Trump recently imposed on solar panels and how it was going to raise costs. We instituted this most recent solar group to fight back against the cost increases and make sure that solar stayed affordable, reliable, and fair. Join the fight. Build the revolution.
